Do you want to stay focused on your goals in 2023? Of course you do and I’m here with a few tips and tricks to help keep you motivated.
I can’t believe that we are nearing the end of another year. As sad as it is to see it go, it’s exciting to look ahead and dream about what adventures await you in the new year.
If you have big plans like I do, here are a few ways that you can stay focused on your goals without the burnout!
Planning ahead
A few years ago, I had a manager who would take a weekend at the end of each year to re-evaluate and set goals for herself and her family.
Her and her husband would leave the kids at the grandparents and book themselves into a nice hotel for the weekend, then spend some time looking back at their achievements and determine if they were still on track to reach their 3-5 year goals.
This was incredibly inspiring and got me wondering how may people actually take the time to plan out their lives strategically.
After all, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
Having goals for your life, whether they be personal, for your family or for your career or business, helps to keep you motivated and on track.
It’s what gives us purpose and a sense of direction and they can be as small as saving up for a new dishwasher or as big as buying your first (or second) family home.
The amazing thing is though, that no matter how big or small your goals are, they are absolutely attainable.
As long as you have an action plan in place and you focus on your mental and physical well-being.
Setting your goals for 2023
If you’re already in the habit of setting goals for yourself, now is a good time to evaluate how far you’ve come or where you may have fallen short.
And if you have fallen short, don’t be discouraged as it means that you may have simply put too much on your plate, or you have a few bad habits that you need to kick in the behind.
This brings me to my first point; make sure that you’re setting goals that align with current lifestyle.
Yes, maybe you’re setting goals to change your lifestyle, maybe that’s the point of creating these in the first place, but until you get there, you need to take into consideration how much time you currently have to work towards your new goals.
As a mom, you need to understand that you need a healthy balance between your children, your relationships, your work AND yourself.
Try to set a few small win goals as well. Every time to tick these off your list, you’ll feel an incredible sense of accomplishment and in turn, keep yourself motivated for the big ones.
Visualise your goals
This is my favourite part of goal setting! Getting creative with a vision board.
There are many different ways to do this, the two most popular ones being a digital and physical board.
Both have pro’s and con’s but in my opinion, having a printed, physical vision board works so much better.
Choosing the images and taking the time to cut everything out and place on your board also means that you’re more present and you spend a few minutes really thinking critically (and dreaming) about the outcomes that you desire.
Having a digital vision board is great in a sense that you can have it readily available at all times, such as a wallpaper on your desktop, or a Pinterest board, but you don’t need to be staring at it every minute of the day.
Having a physical board and reminding yourself of the bigger picture once or twice a day is plenty.
Now, I’m no manifestation guru, yet, but they do say that looking at your vision board before bed and then visualising your dreams as you fall asleep is incredible for wiring and moulding your subconscious mind.
Another great way to stay present and focused on your goals is to spend some time with yourself and to meditate.
We’re so easily distracted by our phones, the TV, social media etc, so shutting your mind down from time to time is vital. You need no more than 10 minutes a day to do this.
Mental-wellbeing and Discipline
Being organised is only half the battle of reaching your goals. You need to be mentally fit and work on core life skills, one of the most important being discipline.

Making sure that you have a good routine in place and managing your time will ensure that you don’t overwork yourself and cause a burnout.
And the key is that even if you do fall out of routine and even if you feel like you’ve taken a step back, just get back up and start again.
Remember, small steps are better than no steps and you won’t be starting from scratch.
Think of it as picking up where you left off instead.
If you’re struggling to get motivated, try listening to a few podcasts relating to your dreams and aspirations.
It helps to learn from other peoples success (and failures) and it’s a great reminder that everyone had to start somewhere. If they could do it, so can you.
You can also do an audit on your social media profiles. Who are you following and how does their content make you feel?
Be sure to follow the people who inspire you and get rid of distractions and content that make you feel like a failure.
There is nothing worse than someone trying to convey this image of themselves as though everything in their life is perfect.
Real life isn’t perfect and perfect is whatever you choose for it to be.
I feel like I can’t conclude this post without at least mentioning exercise and physical well-being. It’s often overlooked, but I can’t stress how incredibly good it is to keep you energised and mentally fit.
So to summarise, the basic building blocks of staying focused on your goals in 2023, are to set clear goals, visualise them, work on your mental well-being and don’t overlook a quick 20 minute workout.
